The RSPA were asked to "pitch" in with an emergency situation to support Reading School in providing financial assistance towards some replacement football goals.
The goals at Morgan Road were considered to be 'condemned', and needed to be removed since they had gone beyond any kind of economically viable and reliable repair. They were already over ten years old.
Some investment in the facilities was urgently needed before imminent fixtures had to be postponed.
Following a review with the sports departments, the most cost-effective solution was to provide some fixed base goals, being the type that are dug into the ground.
Having high-quality goals at Morgan Road could also in time enable school to charge for lettings of the pitch to third parties, enabling Reading School to benefit from both an income as well as better facilities.
Whilst the RSPA did not cover the full cost of the replacement goals, we did quickly and unanimously agree to grant the top up payment needed, so that the works could proceed without any delay.
The RSPA strive to keep a small reserve fund for such emergencies, and it is one of the reasons that we continuously fundraise - so that we can always try to step in should Reading School need our help.
